Households bring forward firewood purchases to cope with winter

Contents

Firewood consumers are collecting firewood for their households much earlier than in other years. Normally, firewood was purchased in October and November. It was done when it was getting cold and winter had not yet arrived.

This year, firewood purchases have started in the middle of the summer, due to the rise in gas and electricity prices, as well as the tensions in Europe over Russian gas.

Storing firewood to cope with winter

Firewood is one of the cheapest energy sources for consumers. Wood producers claim that “firewood offers heating up to 50% cheaper than conventional heating with gas“.

In recent months, the price of wood has risen, as with any product nowadays. Even so, it is still the most economical heating alternative for households.

What is the problem with the sale of wood and pellet stoves?

The problem that arises is for those households that, at this stage, have not yet purchased their wood-burning or pellet stove. Demand is increasing at an exorbitant rate and the stock of these products is highly variable.

Instead of waiting for winter, people are buying firewood and stoves in advance for fear of running out“, said a company in the wood sector. We have been seeing this advance in the purchase of stoves since the beginning of the summer, where it has increased by more than 30%.

Winter is just around the corner, the situation in Europe is tense, prices are rising and life is becoming more and more expensive. We have to look for alternatives and, this winter, without doubt, the best alternative is wood and pellets.
